The technique consists of four simple steps:

Choose a Concept: Identify the topic or concept you want to understand or explain.

Teach it to a Child: Break down the subject into simple, easy-to-understand terms as if you were explaining it to a child. This step highlights gaps in your understanding.

Identify Gaps and Go Back to the Source: Recognize the areas where you struggle to explain or simplify. Return to the source material to deepen your understanding.

Simplify and Clarify: Refine your explanation, eliminate jargon, and convey the concept in the simplest terms possible.
